My Students

At MMS, my special day classroom provides a safe haven from the neighborhoods my students travel from on the buses everyday. My students have a wide range of speech and language abilities for some can speak while others require augmentative devices to be heard.

Therefore it is so crucial that they not only have access to a transition age curriculum that will teach them job related skills, but also have social opportunities to interact with the surrounding community.

I can already see many of my students aspiring to be artists, chefs, video game designers or working with animals.

My Project

With the proper job preparation we can role play how to have respectful interactions among their coworkers while also promoting self-advocacy when they need extra assistance on the job.

These curriculum books will help my students learn the social skills they need to get the job of their dreams and become effective problem solvers.

During the last period of the school day we discuss how our individual decisions impact the lives of others. As the job market has become increasingly competitive for the average graduate from college, it becomes paramount that my students have the basic skills when they do not share this education background. Life skills such as telling time, money management, safely navigating their world, and learning how to be accountable for their actions are lessons that these books can provide for them. Every donation for my students will help open up the doors of career opportunities that will change their lives.
