My students are 6th grade students. They are hard working kids who are in an I.C.T class. This means 60% are general education students and the other 40% are special education students.
These students come from low income homes and receive free lunch. They struggle to come in with daily supplies such as book sand pencils. However they show up each and every day with tenacity to succeed and they do!
They enjoy visiting the computer lab and using technology. They love to be creative and always enjoy ending each unit with a culminating project.
My students will be creating projects and using this ink to show their learning success!! They will first use it for their argumentative essays in which they are trying hard to create change. They have read and researched on topics they feel strongly about and written essays in which their purpose was to create change! They are trying to change (cell phone policies, school lunches and etc...) They are solving and trying to make a change in the real world. They will continue use this ink to create a poetry project in which they are working on their social well being. These projects will let them write about their feelings through multiple poems!
In Their Own Words
Create, write and create a safe place in which we can express their ideas and thoughts. We need a time to write about the many problems we deal with on a daily basis, some of us don't feel safe to say things out loud. However writing through poetry can help us !
We will share our argumentative writing and our poems with all the students. We will let kids know they too have a voice and can make a change! Also we will share our poetry projects with our school community and on twitter to raise awareness on topics such as bullying and dealing with emotions!
Our community needs to hear about our problems and understand that we can change them! By showing people our reasons and evidence to make change, we can move mountains and make a difference. Also, the fact that kids have a voice and can make a difference on our school and our community is so important!
