My Project

I am incredibly lucky to teach at a high school in Kentucky where we have a large group of voracious readers. Last August, our school was approved to have a Project Lit Book Club chapter. In this club, these students have the opportunity to pause and take a break from the chaos and stress of growing up in low-income households and simply enjoy beautifully written words that can take them to places that many of them have never imagined before.

My goal as an educator is not just to foster a love of reading, but to increase my students' access to high-quality and culturally relevant books.

All students deserve to see themselves in the pages of a story.

My project includes 30 novels so each student can have a copy. This allows students to connect with their peers. The book I have selected is recommended by the Project Lit Community, which is a national, grassroots LITeracy movement, a network of dedicated teachers and students who are committed to increasing access to culturally relevant books and promoting a love of reading in our schools and communities.
