This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My second grade classroom is a diverse group of students eager to learn! Most of my students are acquiring English as a second language, and many struggle to meet grade level expectations.

My goal for my students and my class this year is to make learning fun, as well as accessible to all students, regardless of background.

Many of them come from low socioeconomic households, so parents aren't able to provide much for the classroom. I hope to implement a number of strategies and use resources that will help them grow from where they are, not where they should be. Since so many of my students are English language learners, our class needs resources that allow for hands-on application of their learning.

My Project

Being in a northern state, we find ourselves with a number of months where going outside for recess is impossible. With the right resources, a day of indoor recess can be a priceless learning opportunity.

I'm hoping to receive resources that will allow my students the chance to be creative while still having fun and being challenged cognitively.

My students are often robbed of the opportunity to just create!

The resources I have requested will allow them to build, challenge, and design on what most would see as a wasted day of indoor downtime. Lincoln logs will allow students to develop structuring, while magnetic squares will allow them to experiment with unlimited possibilities! Connect 4 will teach them strategy, while a Light Brite will allow them to have fun with color! Opportunities such as these help to build a students character, collaboration abilities, and desire to learn!
