There's Nothing Better Than A Kid Who Wants to Learn More

My students need 29 popular science books to enrich their learning.

Hooray! This project is fully funded

I can't think of anything better than a student with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. This is for a tenth grade Biology class.

Two days before proposing this project I had six students come up to me in a group and ask if I had any books that they could read about what we were learning. I just about cried. We are studying evolution right now, and seeing these students getting so excited about it was a fantastic sight. Sadly, there is a very sparse science section in our library, especially when it comes to popular science books.

I would like to build a library of popular science books that my students could check out and read on their own. I have tried to choose a wide range that will span from the technical to the easily digestible. This will allow students of all levels to delve deeper into the subjects we are learning. Authors like Alan Lightman and Richard Dawkins have inspired, informed and entertained scientists and future scientists for years. I'm hoping that my students will fall in love with reading popular science so that, even if they do not choose to go into the sciences, they still pursue their knowledge of science through recreational reading.

Very rarely are students exposed to science literature in the high school classroom. I didn't start reading it until college and that was on my own accord, not the school's. Your help will make it possible for my students to build a passion for reading about science and just might inspire a young person to go into the sciences and write a book of their own.
