My Students

Each day, I get the privilege of entering a learning environment filled with our future musicians, artists, authors, athletes, and scholars. For many of my students, school is their "safe space" - a place where their needs are met and they can focus on just being a kid! They are excited about learning and ready to experience all that a classroom has to offer!

Each of my students carries with them a unique and diverse set of strengths and challenges.

We work hard to help them grow academically but also physically, emotionally, and socially.

My third graders reside in rural South Dakota but they come from all walks of life. About 42% of the students in our school qualify for free or reduced-price lunches.

My Project

These items will be used to enhance my social studies and science (STEM) blocks. My current classroom does not have a world map so I will use the shower curtain world map to help my students identify the seven continents and oceans. We will also record our learning about each continent in the blank passports. The virtual reality posters will bring the abstract concept of outer space to life for my students. The paper flowers and modeling clay will encourage my students to develop hands-models of plant systems. We will use the blank books and jigsaw puzzles to help students "show what they know" about the concepts we've worked on. The "design a gameboard" materials will allow students to connect art and play while demonstrating mastery of our content areas.

These materials will allow my class to step away from our workbooks and textbooks and explore concepts in a way that is engaging, meaningful, and produces long-term results.
