My Students

In a public charter school that pulls students from all over the state, my students have a unique hunger for learning and discovering. As a new school, we have big ideas with high energy and motivation.

My students are diving into projects that explore a variety of techniques and explore context using art history and self reflection.

They are eager to learn new techniques and explore different media in our studio art classroom. I hope to inspire students to think creatively in art, academics, and in their lives and to consider the context and deeper meaning in their work.

My Project

Aprons in the classroom are important for students to feel truly free to create. In the visual arts, students use real art materials that can stain or just be messy. Some materials used in the visual arts in which students frequently ask for aprons, are paint (oil, acrylic, tempera, and watercolor), clay, paper mache, oil and chalk pastel, and charcoal.

Students should not feel inhibited in their art making by a lack of an apron.

Not only will aprons help to protect their clothes, and allow them to create freely, but aprons will reinforce the studio model of my classroom.
