Printmaking provides a different outlet for children to more fully engage with the activity of creating and discovering. Such method of art making engages students academically in creating their image, and physically through carving out their image. Discipline is learned as they see the reward of printing their unique image for the first time. I want to provide for my students new ways of art making and share with them the old tradition of block printing. Students will gain a deeper appreciation for such techniques as they create their projects. Each student will need their own linoleum block to carve. They will design their image, trace it on their linoleum block, carefully carve out their image creating texture as they go, ink their block using special inks and rollers, and print their block on specific print making paper. Many of my students have had very little experience in the arts before they get to the Founder's Academy. My goal is to provide them with a variety of media to keep fueling their hunger for learning and exploration.
