Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are from a small community in St. Louis, Missouri. My students come from a variety of different backgrounds. Some come from single-parent homes, high poverty environments, or homes that speak two or three languages. Some of my students come to me with high behavioral and attention needs. The community is very close and there is a sense of pride for our community and school!

Student success is the goal for every student at our elementary school.

Each year my classroom is full of diverse learners and personalities. My students benefit from hands-on learning and thrive when they are given opportunities to move around and try a new skill.

My Project

Children can be some of the most caring, creative people in our world.

Who better to teach about sustainable concepts and inspire change? By teaching my students about sustainability and giving them the tools to actually make a difference, I hope to inspire the rest of my school, district, and community to lead more sustainable lifestyles.

The picture books will help educate and inspire empathy for taking care of our planet, while the reusable products will give students an immediate action step to being less wasteful. Most of my students come to school with plastic water bottles and other wasteful products that always end up in the trash. With your help, each student will receive one reusable water bottle, one reusable snack holder, and one reusable grocery bag to bring every day for snack and/or lunch. During the school year I plan on conducting experiments to actually measure how much trash we are eliminating with just a few reusable products compared to other classrooms. I hope that my students will believe that even one person can make a difference!
