Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school believes in the connection music and the arts have on student success in the classroom. By incorporating a string orchestra program, students will have the opportunity to pursue musical study performing in a violin ensemble, which will impact their success in other subject areas.
My students are college bound.
My students are from very low income families. They attend an excellent public elementary school that supports a no excuses policy when it comes to student success. Our school culture believes a well-rounded curriculum with a strong emphasis in music and the arts increases student understanding in math and science.
Music education is valued very highly in our school community as an enhancement of student learning. Through music ensembles like orchestra, a safe place conducive for learning is established for students to express their creativity in a group setting.
My Project
My students are in need of string instruments, which include 8 violins. These new violins will be a welcome addition to our small but growing string orchestra program. These instruments will allow additional students to join our popular string music program and learn how to play on the violin in an extremely collaborative group setting. Students will increase their math skills through playing rhythmic exercises, counting patterns, and dividing note values through music math activities.
Students will, most importantly, learn respectful behaviors and responsibility through daily effort and practice, increased confidence and poise, and community involvement through performances. Through our school and community wide concerts, we will show through performance what we have learned and accomplished as a team.
The addition of these musical instruments will have a profound impact on my wonderful students.
More students will be given the opportunity to join a collaborative environment that promotes student creativity and enhanced math skills. Joining an ensemble like a string orchestra is very important for my low income students, as it teaches them the value of teamwork, hard work, and excellence through commitment.
