My students are part of the school's "String Ensemble", which is a new program this year featuring an energetic and positive group of children interested in learning the violin. Our violin ensemble is predominantly made up of students in grades 5-6, making this a young group of children performing challenging musical material on the violin. The children come from very diverse backgrounds with large disparity in their socioeconomic status. Many students in our school are on the free or reduced lunch program. Our music program asks for donations to help sustain itself, but does not enforce a fee to join. The string ensemble is open to all students in grades 5-6 in our school. Our school is a public elementary school in California that still values the arts and music.
