Because of your funding, I was able to purchase every graphic novel on my list and bring a diverse, engaging collection to the shelves of our library at Sonora. These books are now in students' hands every day, and the impact has been immediate and meaningful.\r\n\r\nAt school, I see firsthand how graphic novels spark confidence and joy in young readers. By combining text with visual storytelling, they support comprehension in a unique and effective way. Students engage not only with words, but also with illustrations—interpreting dialogue, facial expressions, and visual details to build understanding. This process strengthens critical thinking skills while making reading feel more accessible, especially for students who may otherwise feel hesitant or overwhelmed.\r\n\r\nThe feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive. One 5th grader was especially excited to see the Narwhal and Jelly series, sharing that it reminded her of reading it at home in 1st grade. It was a simple but powerful reminder of how books can create lasting connections. The Science Comics series has also been a standout, particularly among students interested in outer space, who appreciate the engaging way complex information is presented.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our library has become an even more inviting and inclusive space. One where students are excited to explore, connect, and grow as readers. Your incredible generosity has provided the tools necessary for my students to stop just reading about science and start doing it.\r\n\r\nThe addition of microscopes to our classroom has sparked a level of curiosity that is infectious. For many of my students, this is their first time using professional scientific equipment. Students are asking to investigate other things under the microscope, too! \r\nTo deepen this understanding, the animal and plant cell models have been invaluable. Cell biology can be incredibly abstract, but having a physical, 3D model to touch and take apart allows my students to visualize:\r\nThe structural differences between plant and animal life.\r\nHow organelles function together like a tiny city.\r\nThe complex systems that exist within every living thing.\r\n\r\nBeyond the lab, the books for writing mini-lessons and mentor texts are transforming our literacy block. By studying these high-quality examples, my students are learning how to structure their own scientific arguments and narratives. These books serve as a roadmap, showing them exactly what \"expert\" writing looks like and giving them the confidence to find their own voices as authors.\r\n\r\nYou are helping my students see themselves as scientists, writers, and capable learners.
