My Students

I teach third grade at a Title I school in West Valley City, Utah. Most of the students come from low-income families, and a good portion are English Language Learners.

My students love to learn and come to school, yet many have deficiencies or need additional support to reach grade-level content.

They need additional assistance in reading skills and learn best using hands-on methods. I love my kids and hope to give them the best education any student could have!

My Project

The Secret Stories program teaches phonics in a way that makes it memorable and fun. Students can remember the different phonics rules and sounds in our language by learning different songs and stories about them. The posters are a visual that the students can refer to to remind them of the sounds.

Many of my third-grade students have gaps in their phonics knowledge that will hinder them in the years to follow if not learned.

They need to master phonics skills in order to decode words and become fluent readers. Third grade is a crucial year to master the phonics skills necessary to read words. This kit will support both my distance learners and in-person learners. It is brain-based to help students learn and remember the sounds in the English language. In addition, it will greatly benefit my English Language Learners as they are navigating the new language.
