The SAVE Promise Club recognizes Health Care Workers during Covid19

My Students

I work for BSD. Our District has been reeling from the shock of the mass shooting that occurred on February 14, 2018. It is almost two years after the shooting, and yet the fall out from this event just keeps happening.

Not only did we lose 17 of our staff and students on the day of the mass shooting, but our school has experienced several suicides since the incident.

Unfortunately, there has been two suicides within our District since winter break. We are teaching students the warning signs and signals of violence, (to self and others), through the Say Something Program, which was designed by Sandy Hook Promise.

My students are participating in a club called the SAVE Promise Club. SAVE stands for Students Against Violence Everywhere. They joined this club as a way to be empowered.

My Project

Recently, our District has transitioned to virtual learning (due to the Coronavirus Pandemic). This, however, has not stopped my SAVE Promise Club from wanting to spread joy. We have secured the names, mailing addresses, and emails of several healthcare workers on the front lines fighting Covid-19. Some of these workers have had to isolate from their own families for the good of Public Health.

Because we have been partnering with Sandy Hook Promise for the past year and a half, we know the effects that social isolation can have on a person's mental well being.

This is why we are going to send these health care workers care packages. Whether we receive donations through DonorsChoose or not, we are still going to do it. Right now, we have hand-written letters, toilet paper and hand sanitizer to put in the packages. The items we are asking for would be a great addition to the packages.
