Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students are often afraid of entering the nurse's office- they think it's a doctor's office where shots are given. Students often require general first-aid during the regular school day or even health assessments, which makes visits to the nurse's office inevitable. Our school has eight special education programs with a diverse set of learners, some of whom are nonverbal and are unable to communicate their feelings.

The resources we are requesting will be used to create a warm and cozy environment for all students to feel comfortable during their visit to our health office.

Students can play with the health office Squishmallow, squeeze a stressball, or even play with a fidget toy to take their minds off the fear of being in the health office.

We don't want to offer students the typical "cold and sterile" clinic vibe- we want students to enter the health office and feel welcome. We want our health office to feature bright and happy colors, and we want to provide resources for students to utilize while in the health office, such as colorful heating pads, fun books, and even fun stickers as a reward for participation in their assessment/first-aid care! Additionally, our health office uses SO MUCH ICE during the school day, so we thought a cute little ice maker would also be a perfect addition to our health office.

Our goal is to ensure that when students are in our health office, they see things that make them smile and help them feel safe and well taken care of in a new environment.

Our goal is to create a kid-friendly and inviting health office that will help our littlest learners feel at ease when they enter this space. ♥
