My Students

My class is comprised of first graders. Many of them come from bilingual and low-income homes. Free breakfast and lunch are provided for all students. We have a district program to help supply basic supplies to our most needy students, such as clothing, glasses, backpacks, and school supplies.

Our school has an excellent reputation due to the commitment of the staff and parents to provide the best education possible for the students.

This year, we will be living through a lot of firsts in the classroom, just as we are in all areas of life. Giving students the tools they need to make learning fun will help them stay engaged and focused and help keep worries at bay.

My Project

First grade is the year where kids begin to experience the magic of reading. When kids have not yet mastered the foundational skills necessary to learn to read, they can get frustrated as their classmates begin to read while they struggle.

Giving students games to help practice these foundational skills makes the practice fun and the learning follows.

The best way for kids to master basic phonics skills is repeated practice of the same skill. This repetition can become boring for students, and they may lose their motivation to work hard.

Having fun new games to practice skills keeps kids excited about learning.
