Your support has created an immediate and meaningful impact on our learning environment, one that my students feel and benefit from every single day. I cannot thank you enough for believing in our project and for recognizing the importance of giving young learners the tools they need to succeed.\r\n\r\nOur new whiteboard has quickly become the heart of our classroom. In first grade, learning is highly interactive, energetic, and rooted in visual experiences. The whiteboard provides a central space where students come together to think, explore, and share. It has transformed the way we learn collaboratively in reading, writing, and math, and it has elevated the quality of instruction and engagement in ways I could only hope for before this project was funded.\r\n\r\nIn reading, the whiteboard allows us to build anchor charts in real time, analyze stories together, and record students' ideas as they make predictions, describe characters, and identify key details in the texts we read. My students love coming up to circle sight words, sort pictures, or underline important information. Because the surface is large and visible from anywhere in the room, all students feel included in these shared literacy moments. The enthusiasm they show when invited to add to the board is a beautiful reminder of how much young children thrive when they have opportunities to participate directly in their learning.\r\n\r\nIn writing, the whiteboard has become an essential tool for modeling the writing process step by step. Whether we are brainstorming ideas for a class story, reviewing the parts of a sentence, or practicing how to revise writing, the board allows me to demonstrate strategies clearly and interactively. Students frequently come up to help build sentences, add details, or edit a shared piece of writing. They appreciate seeing their contributions become part of something larger, and they take pride in helping create examples the whole class can learn from. With the whiteboard, writing lessons have become more dynamic, more visual, and more supportive of different learning styles.\r\n\r\nDuring math lessons, the whiteboard is where we explore number sense, demonstrate problem-solving strategies, and show our thinking using drawings, equations, and models. Students often come up in small groups to solve problems together, compare strategies, or explain how they arrived at an answer. Because they can erase and try again as many times as needed, the board encourages risk-taking and rethinking—two essential habits for growing mathematicians. The interactive nature of the whiteboard also helps students understand that math is not just about finding the right answer, but about exploring patterns, discussing ideas, and learning from one another.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, our new whiteboard strengthens the sense of community in our classroom. It brings students together, supports communication and teamwork, and helps even the quietest students feel included. When they see their ideas written in front of the class or watch classmates build on something they contributed, their confidence grows. The whiteboard acts as a shared space that honors the voices of all learners.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has given my students far more than a classroom tool—you have given them a space where they can think, create, collaborate, and shine. Thank you for your belief in our classroom and for making such a positive impact on the education and daily experiences of my first graders. We are truly grateful for your kindness and support.","fullyFundedDate":1759200261419,"projectUrl":"project/celebrating-collaborating/9613476/","projectTitle":"Celebrating Collaborating!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Harden","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp502020_orig.jpg?crop=403,403,x206,y10&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1603408842642","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/502020"},{"teacherId":502020,"projectId":9754815,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous support in funding our classroom's chart paper project. Your contribution has already made a meaningful difference in the daily learning experiences of my first-grade students, and I want to take a moment to share just how impactful your kindness has been.\r\n\r\nIn first grade, learning is a hands-on, collaborative, and energetic process. My students are constantly exploring new ideas, practicing essential skills, and working together to solve problems. The chart paper you helped provide has quickly become one of the most valuable tools in our classroom. It supports the way young children learn best—through shared thinking, active participation, and visual expression.\r\n\r\nIn reading, the chart paper allows us to create anchor charts that my students refer to throughout the day. Together we build lists of character traits, practice retelling stories, note the features of nonfiction text, and record vocabulary we discover during read-alouds. Because these charts are created with student input, they feel ownership over them and return to them proudly when applying new skills. It has been wonderful to see students point to a chart they helped create and say, \"I remember when we wrote that!\" That connection strengthens their confidence as readers.\r\n\r\nIn writing, the chart paper serves as a shared space where we model the writing process. Whether we are planning a narrative, creating a class story, brainstorming ideas, or reviewing what good writers do, the chart paper captures our collective thinking. My young writers love seeing their ideas displayed for everyone to use, and it helps them understand that writing grows through practice, revision, and collaboration. The large format of the paper makes it easy for all students to see and participate, ensuring that every child's voice is valued in our writing community.\r\n\r\nDuring math lessons, the chart paper becomes a space for problem-solving and discussion. First graders are just beginning to understand that there can be multiple strategies for finding an answer. When they work together on chart paper to draw models, share number sentences, or explain their thinking, they learn to appreciate one another's approaches and deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts. Because the paper is large enough for groups to work side-by-side, the students can easily see how their classmates think, which encourages collaboration, conversation, and critical thinking.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, these collaborative chart paper activities help students build teamwork, communication skills, and confidence. They learn how to listen to others, share materials, respectfully express opinions, and celebrate group success. These are skills that will continue to serve them far beyond first grade.\r\n\r\nYour generosity made all of this possible. The supplies you provided are not just \"materials\"—they are tools that help my students become engaged learners, thoughtful classmates, and creative thinkers. Every day, I see the impact of your support in the excitement on their faces as they gather around a new chart or proudly contribute an idea.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in teachers and students. Thank you for investing in classrooms like mine. And thank you for helping ensure that my first graders have the resources they need to grow, explore, and succeed.
