When the package with our incubator, egg turners, and brooder supplies first arrived, my students were absolutely overflowing with excitement. They gathered around as we carefully unboxed everything, gasping with joy as they realized we were actually going to hatch real ducklings and chicks right inside our classroom.\r\n\r\nHaving these materials turned our science lessons into an unforgettable, hands-on experience. Every single morning, the students raced into the room to inspect the incubator, monitor the temperature and humidity, and check off another day on our countdown chart. Using the candling light, they watched in awe as tiny hearts started beating and veins began to form inside the eggs. The highlight was, without a doubt, the day the eggs began to pip and hatch. Seeing their faces light up as tiny ducklings and chicks emerged and took their very first steps was purely magical.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, my students are taking what they observed during the hatching process and applying it to our unit on life cycles and animal traits. They are currently keeping individual science journals where they record daily observations of the chicks' growth, feathers, and behaviors, comparing how ducklings and chicks adapt and grow differently.
