Help me give my students an environment to further our classroom's mindfulness practice. The essential oils and activity cards will help my students continue to foster mindfulness and help them deal with negative emotions and maintain focus.
Every day I come to a job that I love. I have the pleasure of teaching middle school special education in a rural school in New York. My students are growing into motivated and eager learners. We have spent the beginning of the school year focusing on taking the ownership of our learning and our actions.
The students feel empowered by this revelation that their success is in their control.
Now that I have the buy-in, I want to further explore strategies and techniques that help them proactively work towards meeting their goals.
This year my middle school special education students have been learning what mindfulness is and what the benefits of a regular practice are. We start every class period with a teacher lead 2-10 minute activity.
I am looking to expand our mindfulness practice and make it student lead.
The cards will give students a choice of activities that they would like to take turns leading. It also gives them concrete example of how mindfulness can be incorporated into their lives.
Students love ringing a singing bell to start practice, instead of using mine it would belong to them, the class. The oil and diffuser will help to cultivate a peaceful and calm environment. This is especially helpful as many of my students are survivors of trauma.
