My Students

My students are brilliant, highly motivated and eager 5th- 8th graders who are yearning for a loving environment, positive attention, trusting relationships and a safe environment. Despite the severe impact that Covid-19 has plagued their academic achievements and mental health, they continue to embrace change, love hands-on fun activities, and are learning ways to regulate emotions during Social Emotional Learning inside the classroom.

My Project

My Social Emotional Learning project strives to motivate all students by providing well needed motivational art resources, positive reinforcement gaming time, and self-care materials designed to help students learn about how to self-regulate their feelings and emotions. Students with good social-emotional skills have better academic performance, positive school behaviors, fewer behavior problems, better relationships with peers and family and fewer mental health issues. This project aims towards making Social Emotional Learning fun and enjoyable. It is our mission to provide a fun, engaging, and loving environment aimed at increasing attendance while decreasing behavioral referrals with incentives.

The ultimate goal for us as educators is to reboot, refresh, and refocus by giving our students choices, connecting SEL curriculum to their interests, and providing them multiple opportunities to demonstrate their learning in a safe and enjoyable school environment.

Social, emotional, and mental health well-being as well as the impacts of interrupted learning since Covid-19, have affected all students, but particularly those living in poverty. Poor social skills place students at heightened risk for bullying, teasing, and social dysregulation. As students experience social failure, school becomes an aversive place which they may actively try to avoid. It's time to make learning Fun!
