The Lightning Thief Stole Our 4th Grade Attention

Help me give my students a class set of The Lightning Thief so we can read, discuss, analyze, and enjoy the story before seeing the play in October.

My Project

My 4th graders are ready for a shared reading experience that pulls them into a story and gives them something exciting to talk about together. A class set of The Lightning Thief will allow every student to hold the book, follow along, revisit important moments, and take part in meaningful conversations about the characters, plot, and Percy Jackson’s adventure.

This project is even more exciting because our students will be seeing The Lightning Thief play in October.

Reading the novel first will help them walk into the theater already knowing the characters, humor, conflicts, and mythology behind the story. They will be able to notice how the stage production uses actors, music, dialogue, costumes, and movement to transform the book into a live performance.

As students read, they will explore important reading skills such as character traits, theme, problem and solution, point of view, vocabulary, figurative language, making predictions, and using text evidence. The Greek mythology woven throughout the novel will also spark curiosity and help students connect modern storytelling to myths that have been shared for generations.

Having a class set will make sure every student can participate fully in the novel study. This shared experience will build reading confidence, strengthen comprehension, and make our October theater trip even more meaningful and memorable.
