This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Please provide the gift of reading! Do you remember when we were kids and the teacher said it was, "weekly reader time, reading center time, or there's a birthday today"? These were the very special little things that made school special. I need your help to provide these same joys to my class.
My first grade class is learning to read for the first time this school year and developing a taste and love for many genres.
Help me provide vivid nonfiction Weekly Readers that will capture students' curiosity in science and social studies. Moreover, providing students with their very own Weekly Reader enables students to take home their own articles to place on their home book shelf and share with their family. During these hard economic times, many of my students are not able to buy books other than materials I can provide. Weekly Readers will supply extra practice and motivation to read. Also, our class consistently seeks out new materials to keep reading center time challenging and fun. Last, as a tradition in my classroom, I reinforce the idea that reading is a gift worth sharing. Therefore, every time there is a student's birthday, we have a special birthday story read aloud chosen especially by the birthday student followed by the traditional song and jazzy fun fair!
My Project
We live in a town and school affected by school budget cut backs. Students do not always receive the perks we once got to provide such as Weekly Readers, but I am hoping with your help, not all celebrations will be lost. With your assistance the joy of science, the wonder of our country, and the traditions of the world will still be open through Weekly Readers to my class just like we got to enjoy them when we were kids. Even more, the joy of hands on learning through centers can stay alive in my classroom. Last, let's not forget to provide a little happiness by providing birthday read alouds and making someones birthday a very special day worth celebrating! Please help me supply the gift of reading, wonder, and joy in my classroom.
Let us make a difference through effective and fun reading centers.
Providing students the tradition of weekly readers keeps the magic of reading, science, and social studies in the classroom. Magical pop up birthday books also help make memories and keep the gift of reading alive and thriving in school. Your help enables me to instill a love for school and learning on a daily basis.
