This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a librarian at an elementary school that has a very high poverty rate. I have been a classroom teacher for 10 years, but this is my second year promoting literacy all day long!!! The children at my school are very diverse, coming from every great corner of our earth. I have all grades of children, from Kindergarten to grade 8, coming to check out books from the library.
My library budget has basically been cut to nothing this year because of citywide budget cuts. I will be able to purchase 50 books for the whole year for a school of almost 1000 children!!! My students love coming to the library and reading and are sooo excited when new books arrive for them to check out.
My middle grade students have been asking for the classic Roald Dahl books, but they have been around for so many years that they have all fallen apart.
I would love to have 6 new hardcover books of the Roald Dahl classics for children to check out, read, and fall in love with. Roald Dahl is a master of children's fantasy and millions of children have grown up reading his books. Please help another generation of children get hooked on his books!!!
For most of my students, the school library is the only place that students have exposure to free reading books for enjoyment. Help raise life-long readers by providing new hardcover books for our library.
