The Critics Lounge

My students need a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, for advertisements they will be creating, and for rating the variety of literature they have read in the classroom.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Technology is advancing at a rapid rate, but my young scholars in the inner-city are deprived of exposure to this due to high levels of poverty.

My students are intelligent individuals with the desire to succeed and overcome their daily adversities.

They aspire to leave the inner-city to pursue careers including, medicine, law, education and architecture. The school I am currently working is considered high poverty, with almost 100% of the students receiving free and reduced lunch. Many of their parents are unable to be involved in their day to day activities because they work numerous jobs, yet they still WORK HARD and are driven. My students are inspiring and have a love for knowledge and good literature. Within four and a half months we have managed to read almost five books. THEY LOVE THEM. They are dedicated to their education and will do whatever it takes to succeed.

My Project

Many students in the inner-city lack exposure to good literature. In fact, some students go years without reading books. My students have read 4 already, and we have a goal of accomplishing 8 by the end of this year. They are currently reading the book, "The Hunger Games" as 6th graders. Many may think this book is too advanced but their level of comprehension and desire to read more inspires me, and my other colleagues as well. The Samsung Galaxy will provide my student the opportunity to make advertisements critiquing the various books they have read. Not only will this include technology, but will allow them to overcome fears of public speaking (which essential in everyday tasks, present and future), and will give them the opportunity to share the knowledge and opinions they have gained through reading literature.

My young scholars will have the opportunity to share their opinions on the literature that they have read through the form of media.

They will share amongst their peers in different classes what good literature looks like, hopefully will cause students all over to be interested in good literature. My dream is to have more students in the inner-city achieve their goals and be successful in the future. I believe Public Speaking, Technology and the ability to Read passionately will help them.
