This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hi! I am the School Counselor at an Elementary School (K-5). Our school is in a rural community, and we are the only dual language elementary school in our district. It is a very supportive and caring community with amazing students.

Our students are very sweet and love helping each other.

We focus on kindness, and they are always eager to help whenever they can.

As the School Counselor, I am the one that students and families come to when they are needing support- whether that be school support/counseling, outside resources, food and several other miscellaneous needs. Lately, because of the pandemic, several of our families have been forced to move in with other families due to loss of housing/jobs etc. I have a lot of students coming in needing toiletries, socks etc. Our PTO/Booster club helps when they can, but the needs seem to be rising.

My Project

A majority of the items I requested are for the students' hygiene. I believe this will help them feel more comfortable and confident at school. If they feel good about themselves, then they will come to school ready to learn. The Social Emotional books I will use when I do class lessons, teaching kids about empathy and kindness, and also doing interactive activities to practice these skills. With all the other stressors going on in the world, our children shouldn't have to stress about not having a toothbrush or shampoo at home. These supplies will be greatly appreciated.
