Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our student body ranges across many socioeconomic levels and cultural backgrounds (including many Title I and minority students). Some are "high achieving" students who plan to move on to four year colleges and universities (including Ivy League, film, and art schools), while others struggle with grades and must babysit siblings or work after school to help support their families. Our students participate in a STEAM-based environment through our Arts Academy, and our many community partners.

Our students are interested in practical "real world" applications to link the Arts to other subject areas including mathematics, and desire opportunities to blend all of these together.

Gallery Design provides such a link.

Our student have created and maintained an on-campus gallery to showcase their works, with support from our staff and the gallery design programs of our local college and university. It has become the "heart" of our program.

My Project

As my students' knowledge of photography continues to grow, it is my goal that they must be able to develop their student voice in order to become better artist and creators. Being able to provide students with access to tripods, and new batteries, allows them to pursue their creative ideas in a more successful way. By using tripods, students investigate the science of photography through a hands-on experience when they study longs exposure, light paintings, and multiple exposures photographs.

As the photography program continues to grow in numbers, the demand for these supplies does too.

For the 450+ students a day that use digital cameras, I need extra batteries to ensure that students, at the end of the day, have access to a digital camera with a charged battery.

With this support, students will have the opportunity to create images by successfully being able to use all that the camera has to offer. Tripods and batteries will enable students to maximize the camera's capability and generate quality work.
