Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Last year, I had the opportunity to teach 150 amazing 6th grade students, and I am excited to be moving up and teaching these students again as 7th graders. My students are incredibly bright and talented and love to explore and learn when they are provided with the opportunity. As a science teacher, it is necessary to use many different supplies to engage students with hands-on learning experiences and labs. Unfortunately, teaching in a school district that is as large as Dallas, there are not always funds available and the majority of my students families cannot afford to provide supplies.
My Project
As a teacher in a large urban school district, my students often do not receive equal opportunities. My students are not able to go on field trips or participate in complex labs like their peers in other school, due to lack of funding. I want my students to have as many memorable experiences in school as possible, especially in my science classroom. Science was my favorite class growing up because of the opportunities it provided for hands-on learning. I want to allow my students to feel the same love for learning in my classroom. In order for this to happen, it will require me buying supplied and materials. Any contributions would be helpful to help me make this the best year yet.
