Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you seen a Black Hole? Every day I see Black Holes when my students open their backpacks. Homework they worked hard to complete is lost along with instructions and notes. As a new quarter begins, I want to get them organized and more confident to meet the day.
My students have special needs, range in age from 14-18, qualify for free or reduced lunch and speak English as a second language.
They face private, medical and academic challenges on a daily basis that would test many adults, yet they come to school ready to learn. For many, they will earn the first high school diploma in their family. Our school is inclusive of students with special needs and is striving for rigor in the classroom which means our students need to be organized to be successful.
My Project
I am requesting 1 box of Portfolios to keep their classwork organized, 3 packs of paper to take notes, and 3 packs of index cards to study for tests.
Many don't have the money to buy school supplies but with your help, I've requested 2 pocket Portfolios to help the students keep themselves organized. One pocket will be to keep work that needs to be completed and the other will be a pocket to turn in completed work. Binder paper will be clipped into the center to keep a weekly calendar of work due and any notes and instructions. The students will use the index cards for study notes to prepare for tests. This should end the Black Hole where papers from all periods float together in a wrinkled mess. My students will learn the importance of organizing themselves and how it can build confidence.
Your donations will improve my students' lives by freeing them from the Black Hole, as we know it is hard to avoid the pull.
It will speed up instruction as students can locate materials, improve their learning since we have more time to devote to the subject and so it will increase their confidence. Your contribution also helps students prepare to join the work force where learning to organize themselves is a skill they need on any job.
