My Students

I teach first grade students in one of the most diverse areas of the country. Our school is in the borough of Queens in NYC where we serve a wonderfully diverse international community. Students lead the way to empower learning and come up with the best ideas for resources that become our proposals for DonorsChoose.

Our parents support our journey to success, and that includes an academic focus that includes a recognition of technology, STEAM and literacy's roles in reaching our goals.

This includes reading classics at a young age. Our school community understands the importance of interactive tools to engage students so that we can expand their horizons.

My Project

Crayola's Family Engagement Kit is a create to learn program that includes a parent information guide so that families can use the art materials sent home to practice curriculum concepts in a fun way with their children. The guide is intended to provide helpful hints to nurture curiosity, creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking through hands-on age appropriate activities. Those activities in the 30 kits we are requesting will be the home support for the learning taking place in the classroom across content areas. By engaging families through art inspired projects whose materials have been provided and sent home through the funding of this proposal, we hope to enhance and further support student learning. We see a family-school partnership as key to achieving academic success through the arts.
