I teach in a New York City public school in the borough of Queens, one of the most diverse areas in the nation. My students are first graders who are very bright and need to be inspired through art as they eagerly expand their reading skills. First grade is an exciting time to foster enthusiasm for learning, and these crayons and foam boards can do much to achieve that goal. Our neighborhood is an international school community, and the diversity of cultures and languages bring so much to learning. Our parents value art and appreciate its crucial role in education as it relates to every aspect of literacy. For that reason I would like to bring as much art as possible to our classroom to brighten each day.
