Tennis In the Inner City

My students need 2 tennis nets to practice tennis skills. The 10 foot portable mini nets will allow all students to practice all tennis related skills. My gym is split in half so children will be able to practice on both sides of the gym.

I work in an inner city school where many of students do not receive the same opportunities as many other children do. this is mainly due to their economic circumstances. I wanted to start the first ever tennis team in my elementary school. My main goal is to instill my love of tennis for all of my students so that they continue to play the game into adulthood.

Tennis is a game that evokes emotion and passion within the realm of sport. Tennis is common language among people of diverse backgrounds and heritages, it is a bridge that spans economic, political, cultural, and religious barriers. Tennis is a sport played by nearly every country in the world;Asia, Africa, Europe, North America and South America all have rich tennis traditions.

In a global society tennis is not restricted by age, sex, political, religious, cultural, or ethnic boundaries. Students will develop their speed, strength, stamina, skill, and tactical knowledge. However ,many of students are not able to afford the equipment needed to play the sport of Tennis. Therefore I am asking for a tennis net and asking other teachers throughout my school to donate their old tennis rackets. When I watch the Williams sisters play I always think of their humble beginnings, and believe that anything is possible with support and guidance. This project will also involve a mentoring component, where high school seniors will come to my elementary school and share their tennis knowledge and expertise with the students on my team.

With your help many youngsters will experience a sport they can play for a lifetime. In addition students will move across class barriers and will be able to teach and learn and make the world a better place by helping others. Well thank you again for your continued support and dedication.
