My students are from an inner-city community. Many come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The students I work with all have communication disorders, including articulation disorders, phonological disorders, receptive/expressive language disorders, fluency disorders, social pragmatic disorders, and hearing loss. My students all require specialized instruction in speech and language to become successful communicators.
My students are eager to learn and to succeed; they deserve the best possible therapy with the help of technology!
My Project
It appears as though teletherapy and virtual learning are here to stay (at least for a little while longer). To provide the highest quality speech and language teletherapy for my students, I am asking for a MacBook Pro. I am currently using a Chromebook for teletherapy services, and although I am thankful for a device, it has posed many challenges.
Chromebooks provide poor video and audio quality, making it very difficult to provide quality services to my students.
It is difficult for students to hear clear articulation, fluency, and voice models and cues/prompts and models for language targets. MacBooks are compatible with all virtual platforms and provide excellent audio/video quality. The noise-canceling headphone with a microphone will be a great addition to teletherapy. I will be able to clearly hear my students without environmental distractions and they will be able to clearly hear me! I am also asking for an Epson Document Camera so that I can share fun and engaging paper-based activities, books, and visuals with my students.
With your help, my students will continue to make effective progress with their communication during this time of virtual learning! My students and their families are counting on me to continue to provide effective speech and language therapy services. I am confident that with updated technology, I can provide the best possible teletherapy services while collecting valid and reliable data.
