Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 7th and 8th-grade students in a Title I school that primarily services Multiple Language Learners (MLLs). Specifically, I teach these students necessary Social and Emotional Learning skills through a class called Techniques for Tough Times. My goal is to provide my students with a safe and positive learning environment in which they can tackle the often difficult social situations that they are presented with regularly.

My Project

My students are obsessed with online content. They spend so much of their free time staring at their phones, often absorbing toxic and negative messaging. I believe that by creating lessons that require the use of technology and the creation of short films, I will be able to increase engagement and provide important lessons to my students. My goal is to have my class create POSITIVE and UPLIFTING short videos to be shared with our entire school of 700 students. I want my students to feel empowered to make a change in their own community by combatting online bullying and negative messaging with content that inspires students to rise up and be better citizens. This iPad will allow me to create an after-school program where I will be able to show students how to be positive influences in the community with the creation of short videos on communication skills, mindfulness, and emotional awareness. Please help!
