My Students

Did you know that executive functioning is one of the most accurate predictors of life outcomes? More than your socio-economic status or IQ, executive function determines not just my students’ future, but the following generation! That means developing these skills (working memory, inhibitory control, and cognitive flexibility) is the highest point of impact in early childhood education. Nourishing this brain fitness is the core of my classroom, where we are always striving to empower our nation’s youngest learner-leaders with the mental tools they need to be unstoppable.

Our nation’s little but mighty learners are the revolutionary leaders our world needs.

In prekindergarten we are committed to growing our brain and giving our hearts; to being leaders who use our passions, interests, and critical consciousness to make the world a better place and dismantle the status quo.

We do this with a curriculum called Tools of the Mind and couldn’t be more excited to be back in the classroom this year! Returning to in-person learning has been an exciting challenge and I’m committed to teaching my heart out, but I need your help in bringing my students the educational justice they deserve.

My Project

This technology will enable me to use a new online platform as an instructional coach to serve our network's Early Childhood Program in classrooms using the Tools of the Mind curriculum.

What we dream for our students is what we dream for our district and nation; transformational anti-biased, anti-racist early childhood education grounded in love and rooted in the neuroscience of brain development.

Research makes clear what we need to do to empower our country’s youngest scholars to learn, love, and lead. More than any other indicator, one’s executive function determines one’s life’s outcomes and the best time to build one’s executive function is in the early childhood years. Truly developing executive function in our students requires educational systems to understand brain development and intentionally place that understanding into everyday practice.

The story our data tells in Baltimore from utilizing Tools of the Mind reflects the national narrative that’s getting louder: executive function curriculums work. As the program lead and instructional coach, I need a computer so that I can record, edit, and utilize videos of instruction in order to give feedback to teachers remotely to improve outcomes, to collect data, and so much more.

Impacting over 25 teachers and approximately 500 students, this technology is imperative to the efficacy of our program.
