Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to learn, and willing to try but have many odds stacked against them. We are located in an urban area where my students come from a low socioeconomic background. A full 99% of my students receive free or reduced price lunch. Very few of my students have access to computers at home. Roughly 2/3 of our students read below grade level. We have had technology projects fully funded in the past and it has made such a difference in student engagement in the classroom!
My Project
When we got our first 10 Chromebooks the doors to endless possibilities for engaging learning opened up! The 3rd grade students in my class use Googledocs daily to complete projects and revise and edit writing, they can find the answers to their own questions easily, and they get individualized practice in Reading and Math. So, we would like to add 5 new Chromebooks and charging cabinet to keep them all charged up, safe and ready for learning. They will be used to support both the Language arts and Math curriculum daily and will allow for more opportunities for project based learning.

Having instant access to technology makes the classroom a lively and engaging place where students can learn to be independent thinkers and problem solvers. Just the kind of people we need in 21st century jobs!
