This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

On a typical day in our Media Center, students will conduct research, and use various computer programs including PowerPoint for presentations. In order to create 21st century learners, I would like to introduce a Makerspace which will involve technological exploration using STEM on various levels.

I currently teach the best students on the planet.

From Pre-K through fifth grade, they come in to my Library Media Center thirsty to learn; especially when it comes to technology. Our school district has provided us with more technology, and our students are incorporating it into every aspect of their school day. I also have a namely amount of students that are learning English as a second language. Modern technology has helped these students in their attempts to learn the language. In many ways, technology is universal and these students can "dive right in" to these STEM projects without having language as a barrier. This helps them to feel successful in their new environment. Most of the students in our school are fortunate enough to have technology at home. This allows for the projects that we are working on to be worked on at home as well. This has greatly improved parental involvement and allowed the community to participate in our technological adventures!

My Project

A Makerspace station is basically a station where students will interact with multiple forms of media to work on projects involving STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Students will solve problems and work to create real life applications for these problems. Students will work with circuits and robotics to create meaningful solutions to everyday problems. Students will also work with different materials to build things with a purpose. For example, students may try to build an attachment to crutches that will allow a student on crutches to carry their books. They can then take it a step further with electronics and gears to see if they can make it more accessible. Students will also toy with practical applications using robotics. Adding a Makerspace station to our Media Center will ensure that our students are ready for the 21st century workplace!

Donations to this project will help my students tremendously.

Being in the Library Media Center, I have access to our entire student population and can introduce 21st century technology to everyone. Your donations will ensure that ALL of our students gain access to higher level STEM projects that involve critical thinking!
