My Students

After teaching for 10 years and working to build my Theater program to support a Technical Theater class in my school...I have finally made it. For the first time students will get to experience in depth the wonders of Technical Theatre.

My students range from sophomores to seniors and have spent the past several years with me trying to build interest in a technical theater program.

All of their hard work has finally paid off and out technical theater class is a full load of 26 eager theater technicians.

My Project

My students need 11 liters of various acrylic paint and quality brushes to build knowledge of techniques of scenic design for the theatre. Scenic design is a key component to creating the illusion of theater. Being able to create intriguing and visually stunning scenic designs is achieved through the use of a variety of materials, the most common and most effective being paint. Students will learn various painting techniques to create various pictures for the stage, including marbleizing, rag rolling, dry brushing, stippling and many others. These techniques will help them bring the stage settings they are building a creating to life.

The setting in a play is where the story, its characters, its conflicts, and all that is the world of a play lives and breathes.

The need to create an aesthetically pleasing set and scenic design is crucial to bringing the whole picture together. Having these supplies will propel my students from painters and drawers to theater artist, designers and technicians, all viable career choices.
