Teaching Techniques for Better Mental Health Yields Better Classroom Success

Help me give my students new techniques for relieving stress and anxiety in the classroom.

My Project

For the past several months I have moved into a program designed for high school students who are interested in pursing a degree in education. Most of these students come from a home without parents with college experience.

These high school students may have many different backgrounds and limited resources but their camaraderie and desire to learn make every day a joy.

My students truly are special and fun to teach.

Our environment has no windows and this can add stress. While helping them learn about environments, we have studied the impact of mental health on student success ranging from PRE-K to post-secondary education. We are working to prepare a unit on strategies to help students cope with anxiety, ADHD, and outside stressors. Therefore I asked for sensory items, such as: fidget spinners, magnetic fidget rings, and stress balls. I also asked for plastic boxes to transport these to the schools we serve.

By using the sensory items here, such as fidget spinners, magnetic fidget rings, and stress balls, it will allow my students to work to incorporate these into their lessons and current and future classrooms.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
