Teaching Reading with Picture Books

Help me give my students the books for a year long reading curriculum that utilizes quality picture books to teach the standards and skills for reading.

My Project

I wish to expose my students to the enriched vocabulary and higher-level thinking skills that quality picture books have to offer. I am requesting the specific books used in the third grade "Rooted in Reading" curriculum, which I recently purchased from TPT with another DonorsChoose grant.

I love teaching through picture books and firmly believe that no child is too old for a picture book.

There are so many wonderful lessons and skills that can be taught in fun ways with the language and artistry of picture books. I have missed utilizing picture books with my teaching since moving from 1st grade to 3rd grade and I am excited to expose my students to the high quality and enriched vocabulary of these picture books for many years to come.

Each week, we will dive into a specific topic using the picture book as our guide. Topics include relationships within families, race and gender issues, and socioeconomic status.
