Teaching Language to English Learners Through Engaging and Fun Activities!

My Students

My amazing kiddos are made up of 60 students in kindergarten and first grade, learning English. They represent a beautiful array of cultural diversity. Although my students share this space at different times, attend the same school, and make up a portion of the students all receiving free lunch, their individual stories are very different and close to my heart.

My students are all learning a new language (English) and learning a new culture!

They have only been in the United States for a short period of time. They want to learn English, and they want to learn about American culture. This is evident in their persistent hard work, attendance, and smiles that shine upon each of their faces.

My Project

These materials will help engage my English learners by providing interactive and fun literacy work! I recently got a big book with props and the kids have absolutely loved it. Reading books and having visuals and manipulatives has proved so beneficial. I would love to have the complete set of big books to provide awesome language experiences for my kiddos. I have also requested the big book set with word families. These will help them connect to rhyming words and word families during shared reading. The kids really enjoy playing games so the Bingo game for alphabet recognition and the matching games will be immediately utilized and enjoyed. The syllable mats are so helpful with teaching ESOL students a new language as are the matching lowercase to uppercase. These will be sent home for families to enjoy as well (on a check-out system).

Making teaching and learning fun and engaging for students acquiring English is a passion of mine.
