It's even become a special reward—students work hard to earn time there, and the pillows make reading extra enjoyable.\r\n\r\nOur feela notebooks are now vocabulary journals, and students take great pride in filling them with new words, definitions, and sketches from their reading. The new collection of culturally rich books and headsets has completely transformed our reading block. My students, who come from wonderfully diverse backgrounds, now have the chance to see their own cultures reflected in stories while also exploring perspectives from around the world. The headsets have become a favorite tool during independent reading time; students love listening to stories on Epic and improving their pronunciation and fluency through Imagine Learning and Read Live.\r\n\r\nThe books you helped provide have sparked meaningful discussions about identity, empathy, and courage. For example, one student who recently arrived from Guatemala was thrilled to find a story featuring a character who spoke Spanish at home, she couldn't stop smiling as she shared it with her classmates. Others have discovered new authors from places like Nigeria, Japan, and Haiti, broadening their understanding of how people live, dream, and overcome challenges.\r\n\r\nIn our reading corner, the atmosphere is now one of excitement and belonging. Students eagerly recommend books to each other, often exclaiming, \"You have to read this next!\" This project has not only improved literacy skills but also strengthened our classroom community. Thank you for believing in our students and helping them grow into compassionate, confident readers who are truly ready to \"read the world.\"","fullyFundedDate":1756225812106,"projectUrl":"project/read-the-world-inspiring-young-minds-th/9517128/","projectTitle":"Read the World: Inspiring Young Minds Through Diverse Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Israel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6866365_orig.jpg?crop=629,629,x0,y60&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749144257893","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6866365"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_120980","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":57,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":59,"percentWhite":20,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":65.1,"schoolId":120980,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Rising Stars Academy - Carthage on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Rising Stars Academy - Carthage","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/cincinnati-public-schools/carthage-elementary-opens-august-2017-/120980"}
