My Students

I am a high school teacher for students diagnosed with Autism. My classroom represents the true spectrum of Autism. My students come in happy to learn every day. They enjoy the praise they receive for participating and putting forth a good effort in their own education.

I strive to find creative ways to provide a rigorous academic experience for all of my students.

We have great support from our district but oftentimes need to think out the box to create a truly individualized learning experience.

I aim to integrate a variety of materials and sensory activities into the school and classroom environment. My students require a wide range of items and activities to keep them motivated. I incorporate daily living, life skills, and post-secondary skills throughout the curriculum. I try to make every contact I have with every student a memorable one, a true teaching moment. As an educator, it is my job and my goal to make a positive impact.

My Project

My school has just organized a brand new music and art center for our students. These music and art materials will allow us to offer each of our students an opportunity to engage in a variety of music and art experiences throughout the school year. Our students typically have restricted interests so it is important for us to expose them to a variety of diverse activities within each subject area.

Children with Autism often learn best with a hands on approach.

The percussion instruments, paints, and art spinner will allow continued access to hands on activities for them to incorporate into their daily schedule. They will allow our students to tap into their creative side while also learning academic skills.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
