My Project

Good news! Guidance has a permanent spot in the Unified Arts rotation at our school. I am hoping to revamp the curriculum to make it more engaging and relevant for the population that I teach. The Teach Your Dragon book series by Steve Herman is an excellent resource to help me do just that.

The Teach Your Dragon books cover social emotional topics like making mistakes, accepting 'no', making friends, and much more.

While some of these books are available online to play as a read aloud, having the books on hand to pull from and read as many times as necessary would be extremely beneficial. The Teach Your Dragon series is an age appropriate, fun, and engaging series that students relate to and learn a lot from.

I am hoping to use this series with students in PreK all the way to 2nd grade. I typically teach a mini lesson in guidance following a mentor text. I would love to build the students' skills using the whole series in order to give them a solid foundation for when they get into the older grades. Using the same book series to do build skills can help students connect ideas and put them into place in the classroom.
