Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The colors, shapes, and patterns on a variety of healthy foods will engage my students as they experience the limitless possibilities of making informed eating choices.

My students are vivacious kindergartners who enjoy the whole experience of schooling.

We are at a school that is rated "high poverty" and "socioeconomically disadvantaged". The choice to teach and learn at my school is intentional as I develop lessons that will teach all students to be informed decision makers.

My Project

My students need realia such as Pretend and Play Food Set, Toy Garden fresh Fruit and Veggies and Food Pretend and Play Healthy to engage in learning real life decision making concerning their health. Good decision making helps each of us live better lives and affects those around us. The plastic food that my students and I will use for this lesson will empower them to make healthy choices for themselves and their group members. The teaching and learning will involve scenarios for family meal planning, picnics, snacks, and appropriate sharing.

One of my goals is for my students to maintain the eagerness to learn throughout their school career and beyond.

Making healthy food choices is a link that I use to discuss responsibility, accountability, honesty, hard work, and friendship. The broad impact on the lives of my students is that the choices they make, now and in the future, affects the quality of their livelihood.
