Mrs. McArdle from Peoria IL is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need plastic take home folders to insure notes, homework and corrected papers get home to parents or guardians.

My students live in a high poverty area on the south side of Peoria, Illinois. Ninety percent of my students live in single-parent homes, receive free breakfast and lunch, struggle to dress appropriately for school and lack transportation to get around town. Academically, most of my class scores in or around the 25th percentile of all 3rd grade students nationally on the NWEA. They need consistency, routine and many experiences to meet the goals of 3rd grade.
Despite these obstacles invading almost every aspect of their lives, these students want to come to school!
They don't always have the best attitudes or know how to express their wants and needs, but the smiles, hugs and tears tell their stories clearly.
My students are assigned homework every day. They do not always have the resources (pencils, erasers, paper) to complete this work at home. By providing plastic take home folders, students will be able to transport their homework back and forth between school and home, sharing messages and completed work with their parents. Giving them this responsibility is important to feeling good about themselves and their abilities. Providing pencils with erasers and paper insures that they have all the materials they need to complete assignments.
My students have so very few of the basics that I take for granted; it amazes me the joy it brings to their faces when they see all the supplies are provided for them to complete work at home with their parents and be proud of it!
I want my students to be successful and if it means providing basic supplies for homework, I'm in! All in!
