My students need wobble cushions for options in seating in order to learn to make choices regarding collaboration. By having choice of working in partners, small group, or independently they will not only learn about themselves but about teamwork.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In our classroom, we write and share every morning enjoying narratives of weekends, stories such as "Pancake man vs. Bacon Man", etc. We read and enjoy dissecting stories, learn math, history and science in Spanish, but we know that school is not only numbers or dates, it's the perfect arena to master social skills.
I have the privilege of teaching 28 unique minds that just like a Gustav Klimt picture with all it's tiny tiles, form a beautiful collage of talents.
Active, curious, kind, hardworking... these are a just a few adjectives that describe this very unique group. We are just a snapshot of this remarkable school located in Poway, California.
Fifty percent of my students are native English speakers and fifty percent of them are native Spanish speakers. They are enrolled in a dual language program. They are fluent in both English and Spanish. In the same ratio, 50% of them come from families with stable economic resources but the other half is classified as low socioeconomic status. That said, they are talented, hungry for knowledge, and kind and caring little human beings who want to grow to be successful.
My Project
Wobble cushions have different advantages. They can be moved, they help students to stay calm and focused while stabilizing themselves. In real life, it is difficult to stay seated in the same place for more than an hour. Having the ability to switch to different options, and to work with different people, allows the children to begin experimenting with a more real life environment.
It is an important experience being able to choose where to sit - in partners, triads, small groups, or alone- this allows the child to learn his/her own preferences and also allows them to experiment with collaborating in different group size.
Education needs to change and adapt and classroom environments are an important variable to achieve this!
