Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom are 6th grade self contained students. They have intellectual, sensory and emotional impairments that are aided in a small classroom setting. My students struggle with mathematics concepts and This year our goals are to build confidence in our foundation math skills and to become more engaged with our learning.
My students work together as a community based on their learning styles and interests.
They work very hard and a big issue for them is retention of topics. I am always looking for new and interesting ways in order to help them to thrive and remember different topics. We are a part of a large school that celebrates inquisitive learning. All of my students are working hard towards high school and college by relating all of their topics to real world situations.
My Project
Our school is starting a new curriculum for Math this year, Illustrative Mathematics. While workbooks will be provided for students, the curriculum has several online components that could be accessible using QR readers and tablets. Tablets that are QR accessible, can help my students access extra content that is integrated into our lessons.
By having these tablets, my students can have a more interactive way to integrate themselves into the curriculum.
This would be beneficial as they are special education students who each learn differently. My students are very engaged when it comes to technology and so using tablets for learning will help them to succeed.
My school is very STEM influenced and having these tablets will help my students to have access to many resources to help this every day. There are several STEM apps that can be accessed once my students have the ability to use this wonderful technology.
