Overall, I serve a very economically and culturally diverse population of over 300 students in a Title 1 school in Durham, NC as the advanced academics enrichment and nurture resource teacher for all kindergarten, first, and second grade students.
We need your help to complete our severe weather survival kits for our second grade students who were given the opportunity to grow their higher level thinking skills through project based learning activities, science-based experiments and activities connected to applicable and relate-able literature in our weather unit.
My second graders are currently concluding a project based unit on severe weather, culminating by making severe weather survival kits and we are still in need of items to make the kits after asking for donations from our school community.
My Project
My second graders have been studying about different types of severe weather that can affect our North Carolina environment; researching, studying, and producing a presentation on a severe weather type of their choice: hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, and blizzards.
In light of the effects of the hurricanes and unexpected heavy snow fall experienced this fall in North Carolina, our culminating activity is to create and develop severe weather survival kits that students can keep in their homes if the need ever arises for their use and we are lacking items in order to complete the kits.
Students have developed the list of necessary survival items themselves and need your help to finish preparing their kits!
