Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a teacher in Long Beach. I work at a school where 92% of students are eligible to receive free lunch. In my classroom, I have a substantial number of students who are English Language Learners. My students truly enjoy being at school and learning. Despite their challenging circumstances, they come to school ready to learn and persevere through their problems. It is my goal to provide them with hands-on learning activities that will address every type of learner.

I firmly believe in equity over equality.

Each of my students has the potential to succeed and thrive in school. It is my job as a teacher to provide a level playing field for each student so that they may achieve their highest potential.

My Project

With long shipping delays due to COVID 19, we are struggling to supply our students with the basic tools in class. These include supplies such as dry erase markers, colored pencils, crayons, pencils and erasers. My first graders go through masks SO quickly and it is essential that I have ones to give them.

Our school district remains open during this impossible time.

I would like to give the students the supplies to get them through the end of the year. We shall no longer be sharing materials and each student will get their own supplies. We have a class sticker store, where students can earn stickers as a prize for good work. Please help me keep their motivation up!
