Supportive Sensory Materials

Help me give my students access to the sensory tools they need to navigate our comprehensive high school, and more access to books written by autistic authors.

My Students

Our students are neurodivergent high schoolers. My co-teacher, Ms. Keil and I are doing our best to support their self-advocacy skills and introduce them to the vibrant and dynamic wider neurodivergent community.

Our goal is to create a space for our neurodivergent and sensory-sensitive students where they can re-regulate during a chaotic and often-overwhelming school day.

Our students are remarkable, resourceful, funny, and smart. They are experts and learners and friends and they deserve everything we can give them.

My Project

We work with autistic students, many of whom have sensory needs. We need noise cancelling headphones to support them as they navigate a loud high school. Additionally, we want to continue to build our library of books written by autistic people, so that our kids can have access to books written by people like them! This term we are reading We're Not Broken by Eric Garcia. When we finish the book, Mr. Garcia will be speaking with us via zoom. Thank you for your support! We really appreciate it. Greta West and Virginia Keil.
