This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My Pre-Kindergarten students are enthusiastic "college bound" learners! They are intelligent, young students, but the reality is that their socioeconomic statuses and zip codes put them at an academic disadvantage, as compared to their more affluent peers. They are in dire need of having access to quality materials, both inside and outside of the classroom. However, providing them with the supplies necessary to learn in this context is a struggle due to severe budget cuts.
For most of my students, this is their first experience in a structured learning environment.
I want to be able to make their first learning experience hands-on and fun!
My Project
The second half of the school year has quickly approached. My students have learned so much in such a short amount of time, and are enthusiastic to learn more! However, that also means that our school supplies for our scholar Pre-K students are running extremely low. We need to re-stock our supply closet to keep our kids actively engaged in learning! Ink is needed for student created books, sentence strips will be used for student writing and making number hats, and stamp ink pads and markers will be used in multiple centers and rotation activities! The books will be used during our morning restorative circles to build student character, compassion, and awareness. New filter cartridges are needed to keep our class pet fish swimming in clean healthy water, and transportation figures are needed to help make our next unit hands-on and fun!
Can you imagine a Pre-K classroom without crayons?!
New crayons are just one of the many things that start to run low at this time of the year. Not only do we use crayons in the classroom, but we often send crayons home with students who do not have any at home.
These materials will help provide my students with the opportunity to make learning fun and hands-on! My students are "college bound" learners who currently lack these materials needed to support them in their academic journey. Please help provide my students with the tools needed to be successful learners.
